Sharing your PC internet with your Symbian S60 mobile phone

Posted by: Admin In: Hacks|Mobile

Introduction

The instructions detailed here are for the Panasonic X800 which has almost the same hardware specifications as the Nokia 6600.

Configurations detailed here should work just as well on any Series 60, Symbian OS 7.0 phones (Nokia 3230, 6260, 6600, 6620, 6670, 7610. Panasonic X800, X700. Samsung SGH-D710 ). You may need to to play around with the GNUBOX program for other models of phones.

You can now kiss your GPRS bill goodbye :)

Setting up the mobile phone

Step 1
Installing GNUBOX

Download and install GNUBOX for 6670.

After trialing many different versions of GNUBOX, I have found the the only one that worked for my Panasonic X800 is the GNUBOX for the Nokia 6670.

GNUBOX URL ::: click here
Step 2
Configuring the phone

This is the Access Point login script. Remember to replicate it exactly as shown.

CHARMAP [windows-1252]
LOOP 10
{
SEND “CLIENT”+<0x0d>
WAIT 3
{
“SERVER” OK
}
}
EXIT KErrNoAnswer$
OK:
EXIT

*UPDATE – thanks to Xan of GNUBOX http://gnubox.dnsalias.org/gnubox/ *

This can also be replaced with clicking in gnubox: install->set login script (thus no need to type in that long script) after create records you MUST exit gnubox with options->close. This is **VERY** important. After exiting you may start it again immediately and follow the upcoming steps

Step 3
Configuring GNUBOX.

Step 4
Surfing via your phone

Time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

*CORRECTED – thanks to Xan*
Gnubox does not need to be running in the background to be able to surf the net. Once you have set it up correctly for the first time,you can forget all about the application, reboot your phone, etc. and it will still work

Nice tutorial.
Itried following the steps and i can see that my n76 gets connected and traffic activity is there but i cannot open any page. the traffic activity i can see through the connection status on my pc.

The recieved section is moving on but the sent data is stuck to 228.

I am using vista ultimate, and my laptop is behind a router (shared connection 192.168.1.1 ip ).

Can you please tell me what is it that i am doing wrong.

Thanks a lot

Thanks. Glad you like it.
Haven’t tried my this in Vista before and I’m not sure if this will work similarly.

Do try and share your results with me. Maybe you can start with disabling your Windows Firewall and see if that will help

hi there,
Im trying your method but im stuck on one step.
When a access point is setup in the phone what address do i enter in the primary DNS field? is it same as what you have shown in the video? ie. 10.0.0.138 ? or will it be different for me?

I tried with the same settings. The browser shows connecting and then stops with no response and bluetooth icon on phone shows paired (bluetooth icon with brackets) symbol and then comes back to normal with bluetooth sign without brackets.
